Women’s City Club of Delaware
A Look Back Into Our Past
Land Purchased
Land was purchased by James Hill and remained in that family through the next century. The original house was board and batten with a large side porch.
House Moved
The original frame house (minus porch) was moved next door and a new, larger, 3 story Victorian house of Zanesville brick was built on the original site.
Fraternity Moved In
The Sigma Chi Fraternity and later Phi Gamma Delta Fraternities of Ohio Wesleyan University occupied the house.
WCC Founded
The Women’s City Club was founded by Zuella Way and others. The clubhouse was purchased by Glenn Way and presented as a gift to the members of Women’s City Club. The top two floors were dedicated to housing for low income working women. The House remains faithful to the original period architecture and adornments. The many renovations have been completed over the years by members and friends of the WCC.
